Labor Day at the Pool

We had a weird August this year.  At least as far as weather goes.  The weather was just a tad chilly for swimming.  We didn't go to the pool very often and when we did it was only for a short while.  However, the few days before Labor Day, the weather warmed up and the nights stayed warm...so finally the pool was warm enough for us to go in.  Labor Day was perfect pool weather.

Labor Day Duathlon

On Labor Day morning, we headed out to a local kids duathlon in the area.   For Alex and Aubrey's age range, they did a half mile bike ride and then a half mile run.   It was a success.   They loved it.  At the end, Alex was determined to beat a friend of his from church.  He was so excited when he ran past her at the finish.

Getting ready for the race.

Alex racing hard during the bike portion.

Aubrey during the bike portion.

I ran with Aubrey during the running portion.

The medal at the end was their favorite part!

Fun at the Beach

On the Saturday before Labor Day weekend, we ventured to Virginia Beach for the Day.   It was a perfect day to have fun in the sand and the waves.

Mountain of Trash

On the way to Virginia Beach, we took a stop at Mount Trashmore.  It is an old trash pile that has been turned into a field and a playground.  The kids and Dave ran up to the top of the hill and then ran back down.   We also spent some time at the playground before heading to the beach.

Kendra's Wedding Shower

The last event of our trip to Michigan was to celebrate Kendra's upcoming wedding with a wedding shower.  Alex and Aubrey joined us at the shower.  Alex was of course, the only boy there, but he still had a nice time.  They spent most of the time on their leappads.

Alex, Aunt Kendra, and Aubrey

Aubrey, Grammie, and Alex

Aunt Andrea even fixes hair ties.  : )

Me, my sisters, and my Mom

Olivia slept through most of the shower but then she was ready to go.

The best part of the shower was eating cake.  Alex and Aubrey even went up and got seconds.
Aunt Bridget helped them get more.  : )

Extra Pictures from our Michigan Trip

A fun trip to the beach along Lake Huron is a necessity when visiting my hometown in the summer.

We went to the beach twice and Alex and Aubrey had a lot of fun.  Of course, both trips required getting all that sand out of everything.

Berry Picking with Grammie

I haven't been berry picking in a very long time, so when I saw a raspberry pick-your-own field on one of my bike rides while up in Michigan, we decided to go with the kids.  I thought the kids had fun, but I think my Mom, Grammie, had even more fun than the kids.    We started at a pick-your-own raspberry field.

Then we decided to drive to a blackberry pick-your-own farm.  I am not usually a fan of blackberries, but these ones were delicious.

I think Grammie picked most of the blackberries because the kids just wanted to play.  They called this their favorite playground of the whole trip.

When we got home, we made a delicious berry buckle for dessert.
